"The shortest distance between East and West and North and South," a Fellow once remarked, "is through the Schloss Leopoldskron Bierstube."
The Bierstube is the beloved space where Fellows have gathered for over 70 years to deepen ties, share stories and continue debates. After dinner, Fellows come to the Bierstube to connect personally, forming novel partnerships and life-long friendships over a drink in this historic underground tavern in the Schloss. From sharing a song around the piano to fierce games of table tennis, late night dance parties to quiet conversations lasting into the wee hours, some of the biggest highlights for our Fellows happen here.
The Bierstube is due for a major renovation, presenting a unique opportunity for supporters to leave an indelible mark on the Salzburg Global experience for generations to come. Proposed work includes expanding the Bierstube's footprint to allow for more recreational, eating and drinking space for those who attend our 20+ Salzburg Global programs year-round, in addition to Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron events; in addition, the room shall be equipped with modern technological capabilities and safety features. All work shall be done in consultation with the historic preservation office to ensure all renovations steward the room's historic significance as a part of Schloss Leopoldskron.
The Bierstube's restoration will spark and sustain great interest from Fellows, alumni and friends. A gift of $1,000,000 will fund the entire project, and give the donor the opportunity to rename the Bierstube. A gift of $100,000 will fund a significant portion of the project, and give the donor the opportunity to be recognized within the Bierstube itself.
